IMPORTANT: On November 24, 2009, Gov. Deval Patrick signed a saltwater fishing permit law. This new law will create a state saltwater fishing registry that requires saltwater anglers to purchase permits to fish in coastal waters starting in 2011.
The purpose of the new law is to collect recreational fishing data in order to comply with federal requirements, which will hopefullly lead to better management of fisheries off our coast.
Still under discussion: Certified charter vessels like the Erica Lee II currently hold state and federal fishing permits to carry passengers for hire to fish in local waters. Anglers who continue to fish from such permitted vessels may not be required to carry individual permits........... Stay tuned for updates.
